Think you can sweep the next Amateur Competition?  Show us your chops and you could win automatic entry and have your application fee waived.  The Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, known widely as the “Olympics” of the piano world, is an International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs.

Participants may not derive their principal source of income from public piano performances, composition, or piano instruction.  Participants must be over the age of thirty-five in order to participate.

Participants may perform any work or works written for solo piano by a classical composer of any era, including contemporary music, as long as the time limits defined above are met. Pieces must be played in their entirety—they may not be cut or edited, although repeats may be omitted. Separate movements of larger works may be played, but they must be performed in their entirety. Works do not have to be memorized (you can use the music as necessary). Broadway show tunes, movie music, jazz, folk, and other forms of popular music will generally not be eligible for consideration.

The video must be filmed with both the pianist’s face and hands in the frame.

The video that gets the most votes will be the winer.  Voting will begin on May 1, 2008, via a ballot e-mailed to everyone on our e-mail list. Register to be emailed through our online guest book .  Voting will close on May 15.

The winner will be awarded *automatic entry into the sixth International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs (2011) in Fort Worth, Texas. The application fee will be waived.

To enter, upload a performance video with a minimum length of 5 minutes and a maximum length of 10 minutes, to http://www.youtube.com/group/cliburncontest.

The title of the uploaded video should be the participant’s first and last name. The video description should be the name and composer of the piece/s being performed.
