For one weekend in September, dozens of filmmaking teams from all over the world will be working against the clock to produce, write, edit, and upload a short film. And yeah, you’ve heard of that “make a movie in a weekend” thing before and you’re kind of tired of the lameness of those movies. So were we. That’s why we set up BLOODSHOTS as a make a horror movie in a weekend competition. Because when you’re fighting to stay awake so you can finish your movie, we think it helps to have an evil werewolf midget with an axe standing by to keep you on your toes.
We’ll assign each team a subgenre along the lines of Torture Porn, Ghost Story, Backwoods, Revenge Fantasy, or something like that. Then we’ll assign a weapon along the lines of a Chainsaw, a Vehicle, a Piano Wire, or a Bolt of Lightning, and a line of dialog that will have to be in everyone’s film. Using those prompts for inspiration, you’ll have EXACTLY 48 hours to make the most kick ass film you can. So stock up on your fake blood now, and we’ll see you at the pre-shooting party in September.
BLOODSHOTS 2008 will once again be an official part of Fantastic Fest, and all completed films will be screened at the Alamo Drafthouse, with the Best Of and Awards screening taking place during the Fantastic Fest film festival itself. The shooting weekend will be September 5-7, and we’ll be emailing registered teams with information about the pre-shooting party and how to get their assignments online if they can’t make it to the party. Sign your team up today, and we’ll send out more information for BLOODSHOTS 2008 on Wednesday, August 25.
All films that are completed before the time limit will be screened at the Alamo Drafthouse, and be eligible to win. We’ll have a jury of panelists at the initial screenings who will rate each film on a 1-10 scale and at the end of the screenings the films with the highest ratings will go on to the Awards Ceremony. There will also be an Audience Award and the top two Audience Award winning films (one as voted by the online community and one as voted by the crowd in the theater) will also be invited to the Awards Ceremony and be included in the running for the Grand Prize. Final winners will be announced at the awards ceremony during Fantastic Fest and will be updated to the website by 8am CST on the following Monday morning.
“Best of” screening and awards ceremony:_The “Best of” screening will be held in Austin, TX at the Fantastic Fest Film Festival. Check FantasticFest.com for updates on screening dates and times. As this is an international competition, filmmakers do not have to be present to win. Tickets for this screening are limited, we advise early advance purchase if you would like more than two members of your team present.
The grand prize winning film will receive $500. Second prize will receive $250, and third prize will receive $100 gift certificate to the new Mondo Tees.
