$1 Million Video Contest Shows Strength of Model

The frenzy around user-generated video ads hit a new peak yesterday as Frito-Lay announced it is offering a $1 million prize to an amateur who creates a Doritos ad that scores the highest rank in USA Today’s Super Bowl Ad Meter. The new campaign, which comes on top of 2 previously successful Super Bowl user-generated video (“UGV”) ad contests from Doritos, may be a winner for the brand. MyTakeOnHealth Oklahoma Challenge School Video Contest aims to teach Oklahoma students the importance of healthy living by challenging them to create healthy TV-type advertisements.  The video advertisements will help to increase awareness in Oklahoma of the link between the national obesity epidemic and high rates of chronic disease, both of which are often the result of poor lifestyle choices.  The ultimate goal of the school video contest is to further educate Oklahoma children on the need to live well, stay off drugs, and prevent chronic disease. Racy Content OK, If Not User-Gen

Advertisers are far more accepting of envelope-pushing comedy on the Web, as long as the envelope is being pushed by professionals.  Web comedy producers said that they are able to produce more edgy and sometimes racy comedic videos than they ever would on TV.
