Want to be a famous stand-up comedian and global phenomenon in general like Dave Hill? Looking for some laughs? Well, what are you waiting for? First, read the rules, then record your best minute of stand-up — we don’t care if you’re in front of a live audience or your bathroom mirror — and upload your video to the site. 

Contest is open only to natural persons who are legal residents of and physically located in one of the fifty United States or the district of Columbia, over eighteen years or older.   Submission period ends on 11:59 p.m. ET 10/1/08.

A panel of qualified judges will select five semifinalists based on the following criteria:

• Integrating BUTTERFINGER into routine in a clever way, 10%
• Stage Presence/Professionalism, 10%
• Comedic Timing/Delivery, 10%
• Originality, 30%
• Laugh Factor, 40%

The confirmed Semifinalists’ videos will be featured on http://www.butterfingeromedyshowdown.com between 12:01am ET 10/8/08 and 11:59pm ET 10/28/08, during which time Yahoo! users may vote for their favorite video.

The two Entries that receive the most votes by 11:59 p.m. ET on 10/28/08 will be determined as the “Finalists”.

The two Finalists will receive a First Prize and appear in front of a panel of qualified judges and will compete in a Stand-Up Showdown at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood, CA on or about 11/12/08. Each Finalist will be asked to perform their best stand up routine, maximum five minutes.

Judges will choose the winner, based on the following criteria:

• Integrating BUTTERFINGER bar into your routine in a clever way, 10%
• Timing/Delivery, 20%
• Originality, 30%
• Laugh Factor, 40%

One “Grand Prize” package consisting of PR support for the Comedy Showdown event and announcement of winner. Comedy gig at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal. One 5-7 minute spot at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal. Air travel for two from the major airport near winner’s residence in the United States, to comedy festivals in Montreal; hotel accommodations for two days/one night); transportation to and from airport, hotel and the comedy club in Montreal. Twelve hours of services from each of a comedian and a comedy manager to help navigate winner through the business of professional standup comedy. Fulfillment of services to be determined by winner along with manager and comedian mentors. In order to redeem the comedy manager prize component, the winner cannot be represented by another manager at the time of the Contest so as to not be a conflict of interest. If the winner already has a manager, then they will forfeit the manager mentor prize, but retain the comedian mentor prize.
