C-SPAN’s StudentCam is an annual national video documentary competition that encourages students to think seriously about issues that affect our communities and our nation. Students are asked to create a short (5-8 minute) video documentary that responds to one of the topics listed below:
A) One of our country’s greatest strengths;
-or-
B) A challenge the country is facing.
Requirements
1. Since C-SPAN’s philosophy is to show varying sides of an issue, winning StudentCam documentaries will provide the same treatment of their selected topic.
2. Include C-SPAN programming related to your topic
3. 5 to 8 minute time limit
4. Credits at the end of your documentary or a works cited list
This competition is open to entrants currently enrolled in middle or high school in any state in the United States, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories. Students may be enrolled in public or private schools, or be home-schooled. Students in grades 6-8 will be considered “middle school” entrants; grades 9-12 will be considered “high school” entrants.
Entries must be received in the C-SPAN offices by January 20, 2010.
C-SPAN programming must be used to enhance the video documentary. The entry must include varying points of view. GRAND PRIZE: 1 award to the best overall entry
Student(s): $5,000 award
Teacher/School: $1,000 to spend on digital video equipment for his/her school.
1ST PRIZE: 2 awards (1 in each category)
Student(s): $3,000 to a middle school entry. $3,000 to a high school entry
Teachers/Schools: $500 to spend on digital video equipment for their schools.
2ND PRIZE: 8 awards (4 in each category)
Student(s): $1,500 to four middle school entries. $1,500 to four high school entries
Teachers/Schools: $125 to spend on digital video equipment for their schools.
3RD PRIZE: 16 awards (8 in each category)
Student(s): $750 to eight middle school entries. $750 to eight high school entries
HONORABLE MENTION: 48 awards (in either category)
